Impact

The impacts of The Basics Utah are seen across the state. Local evaluation data suggests that The Basics curriculum used in the Promise Baby & You program is effective in increasing parent confidence, knowledge, and connectedness. After participating in the 9-week workshop, nearly all respondents in one cohort (37 of 38 respondents) reported feeling confident or very confident implementing “The Basics,” and most reported using them often or every day. When comparing pre- and post-survey data measuring each outcome on a 5-point scale for four cohorts in Davis and South Salt Lake, participants demonstrated meaningful gains across all major outcomes, including development knowledge, child health and safety, comfort managing child behaviors, community connectedness, and familiarity with community resources, indicating strong growth in both parenting capacity and social support.

Most respondents in a March post-survey responded feeling “Confident or Very Confident” in implementing The Basics Principles in daily interactions with their child. Most respondents reported implementing the principles Often or Every Day.

Confidence level increases before and after participating in the Promise Baby & You program in South Salt Lake and Davis School District in four 2025 cohorts.
